Photoacoustic Imaging is an emerging imaging technology that takes advantage of the absorptive properties of materials. This imaging modality avails to the benefits of optical resolution and acoustic depth of penetration. With the Verasonics Vantage system the photoacoustic pressure waves received by linear array transducers are weak. Our LEGION ADC was incorporated to increase the amplitude of the received signal resulting in an SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) improvement in addition to the signal peak increase in all concentrations of intralipid. With our system Karl Kratkiewicz and Kamran Avanaki were able to write on the experimental considerations for linear array based PAI due to its popularity, simple setup, and high potential for clinical translatability. We can be found in section 4.6.
